I am in a soft rebellion of rest as I read your post and a few more just because I CAN.

As I read this I’m finishing up laundry but nothings folded and put away, still in baskets and I feel accomplished by my own standards lol

Yes, yes, and yes. I think my grandma and aunt, who are now ancestors, must be shaking their heads. They are also the ones who taught me that we don't take naps during the day. I'm living a liberated life for all of us!

Over the weekend with a house full of my 8 children 2 nephews and Father, I cooked breakfast for everyone and after I cleaned I went to my room, took off my wig, and laid down! I let it be known that I was resting and to “try” not to disturb me. I could have been more firm from the beginning so that everyone knew my rest was to be respected. After I rested it was back to taking care of family. Rest revitalizes the givers. This rest and soft girl era is being reflected in how we are choosing more gentle & understanding partners, less dramatic, violent and demanding lovers and giving up struggle love. We can’t rest well under threat. I don’t know who that was for but Ashe! :-)

Beautiful! I may just have to write about taking the wig off and laying it down. I absolutely love this. I need to create a space where we, all of us learning how to rest more, can talk and be in community together! Thank you for the inspiration and nudge.

Powerful, beautiful words of freedom. A freedom that is unique to each individual. I have a dream of leaving a legacy behind that encourages my family and other Black families to truly rest as I continue to face my own demons. I seek rest and to be at peace in the middle of messes and loads of responsibility, but yet the deep-rooted anxiety and fear (of perhaps the negative definition of ‘laziness’) in all areas of life, constantly resurfaces. Particularly, in this season of mothering, homemaking and home-educating, I am in survival mode. The journey is long, frustrating, and yet…rewarding. I hope that one day in the near future, my life will reflect regular rhythms of rest that come as natural to me as breathing and have life-giving effects on my community. Thank you, Tecca, for spurring us on to liberty! May our collective acts of worthy defiance dismantle the systems that ensnare us (humanity) for good.

Thank you so much, I'm glad this resonated with you. I hope this week you will be able to find some time for pause somewhere in your busy schedule. Deep-rooted anxiety and fear, and thoughts of laziness are all lies passed down to us through generations of programming from our ancestors and our oppressors. I'm sure you are doing an amazing job- the damn laundry and mess can wait.

I needed this today. I have a pile sitting there staring at me, another in the machine, the kids are sleeping and the urge to be productive is strong and yet, let me sit and sit my cup of green tea in peace
