Rest Notes from the Red Dot | Third Edition
The Capitalism Detox + The Eve of the Red Dot
Hello Beautiful Souls,
Thank you so much for being part of The Soft Return paid community.
Your presence here means more than you know.
This space allows me to share the deeper reflections, the behind-the-scenes moments, and the soft lessons that shape my journey — in real time — as I live what I teach about rest, healing, and surrender.
If you missed the story of how I completely overextended myself last October and what it took to recover, you can read it here:
👉🏾 Rest Notes from the Red Dots | 2nd Edition
It took 22 days —
22 days of surrendering to my bed until I could feel my body again.
22 days to calm the constant urge to get up and be productive.
22 days to quiet the rhythm of capitalism and grind culture pulsing through my nervous system.
What emerged from those days became a roadmap back to myself —
and the guide I want to share with you tonight.
These are the exact steps I took during that period of deep rest and recalibration.
They’re simple, sacred, and entirely doable.
Before we begin, I want to note a few extra resources connected to this reflection.
After the paywall, you’ll find:
A guided meditation I offered on The Raceless Gospel Podcast to help identify and release the rhythm of capitalism in the body.
A Season 6 listener guide that expands on the conversation and offers reflection prompts and companion notes from the podcast series.
Now, let’s begin the guide itself.
The Capitalism Detox — A Guide to Remembering Your Body’s Wisdom
This isn’t just rest.
It’s a sacred undoing.
A detox from the grind, from over-identifying with output, from the lie that your worth is tied to production.
Use this rhythm whenever your body begins to whisper, “I can’t keep doing this.”
Let these practices help you return to what’s real.
1. Disconnect from the Noise
We live in a world that rewards visibility over vitality.
When you begin your Soft Return, start by unplugging from all the noise.
Step away from social media.
Turn down the endless input.
Let yourself vanish from the performative spaces that demand constant showing up.
No posting. No scrolling. No engagement.
Just breath, quiet, and the radical reminder:
“My worth doesn’t live in my visibility.”
Let silence be your teacher.
2. Tend to Your Body
After years of output and overextension, the body carries the residue of striving.
So begin here — in the body.
Long, hot showers.
Lavender or eucalyptus in the steam.
Massage and gentle movement to help release what words can’t.
Touch becomes prayer.
Care becomes ceremony.
Every act of tending is an act of resistance.
“You cannot rest your mind if your body is still at war.”
If this resonates, keep reading inside The Soft Return for the full guide — including how I balanced surrender and preparation while getting ready for my TEDx talk — plus the meditation and listener guide mentioned above.
